Safety Mapping

The WalkSafe Safety Map shows the safer spaces in towns and cities that local councils, police forces and BIDs have accredited and trained. Each city is personalised on the app to show local banners, safety initiatives and advice to residents and visitors.

Although significant resources are spent on initiatives to reduce VAWG and help venues deliver safer experiences for customers, the problem is they simply don’t know where these safer spaces are:

“I want to know where all these safe spaces are to plan a safer night out”

WalkSafe+ is an award-winning personal safety app that maps these accredited venues.

Interactive icons help users to plan a safer night out

Our research has shown that 63% of women prefer to visit venues with safety initiatives in place.  People are aware that venues like pubs, bars, and restaurants have Ask for Angela and safety training. WalkSafe+ allows councils, BIDs and Police to show icons on a map where these venues are located.

Leeds City
Safe Spaces

In September 2023 we launched our partnership with Leeds City Council to map out their accredited night time economy businesses to ensure that the people of Leeds could choose an appropriate venue for their night out. We launched with a fantastic Dance Troupe, a brass band and a carnival style procession all the way to Greek Street in the city centre. We are seeing huge downloads in the area and receiving overwhelming positive feedback from the people of Leeds.

North Lincolnshire
Launch

Our team have  launched the WalkSafe Safety Map working closely with the North Lincs Safer Nights campaign. By working with the Safer Nights Team we have been able to add over 50 important designated safer areas such as bars, clubs, taxi ranks and community support SOS points to our safety map. These locations give users across the North Lincs area knowledge and confidence on a night out that they can find help quickly and easily should they need it.

Hammersmith Business Improvement District Launch

Hammersmith BID  have been working with their businesses and the local community to create a safe and accessible town centre, day and night. Hammersmith BID has partnered with WalkSafe to help achieve their ambitions around women’s safety and town centre security and resilience. Amongst others, Hammersmith’s ‘official’ safe spaces have safety measures which may include security staff, ‘Ask for Angela’-trained staff, accessible phone charging points and free sanitary products.

Our Vision for the WalkSafe Safety Map

Working with Councils, BIDs and Business to help vibrant city centres that have a strong personal safety culture. Over a third (37%) of women said that if they had access to a personal safety app which features a safety  map, live location tracking  and an SOS button, they would feel safer on a night out.
