According to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) 177 women were murdered between April 2020 and March 2021 alongside 416 male murders. Out of the women killed in this time frame 109 of them were killed by a man, 32% of the victims were murdered by their partner or ex-partner.
The same period saw the highest number of sexual offences ever recorded in a 12-month period as the cases increased 13% on the previous year to 40,572. Domestic abuse (5%) and stalking and harassment (21%) also increased with 4.6% of the adult, female population in England and Wales becoming victims of stalking offences from April 2019 and March 2020.
